Report: Bengals, Hendrickson have had ‘no communication’ on contract extension since draft

This offseason saw two major contract extensions from the Cincinnati Bengals, who locked up star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins with long-term deals this offseason.

Another Bengals star, defensive end Trey Hendrickson, is still waiting to see what his future in Cincinnati looks like. According to a statement, given to ESPN and released by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that future might not be very bright.

In a post on social media Monday, Schefter reports Hendrickson and the Bengals have had “no communication,” since the end of the draft.

“No communication has taken place between my camp and the organization post draft. The offers prior to the draft did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised last offseason if I continued to play at a high level,” the statement reads. “Coaches are aware of these past conversations. Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, THEY are no longer communicating. I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that’s hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals.”

It has been an eventful offseason regarding the future between the Bengals and the NFL’s leading sack getter in 2024.

In March, Cincinnati reportedly allowed Hendrickson to seek a trade from the organization. A couple of weeks later, it was reported that a trade was “off the table,” and both sides were working on a deal to keep Hendrickson in the Jungle.

Hendrickson spoke with WLWT in early April, saying the negotiations are giving him “an opportunity to prove my worth every season.”

2025 is the last season the Florida Atlantic product is under contract for the Bengals. In four seasons with Cincinnati, Hendrickson has recorded 57 sacks, made the Pro Bowl each season and was a first-team All-Pro in 2024.
