First Look At Seattle Seahawks Rookie QB Jalen Milroe Doesn’t Show What Fans Expected

When the Seattle Seahawks used the 92nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, everybody knew that it was likely a long-term investment. The Seahawks recently signed Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract and Milroe, while incredibly talented, is a long way away from being a starting-caliber NFL quarterback.

But the one thing that Milroe does have in his favor is his legs. Milroe ran a staggering 4.37 40-yard dash at Alabama’s pro day, and most fans felt that if he succeeds in the NFL, it will be due to his ability to scramble. However, when Seattle posted its first video of Milroe at rookie camp, there was one thing in the video that was notably absent: clips of Milroe running.

The 16-second snippet showed Milroe hitting several receivers, both in the pocket and on the run. But there were no designed runs or RPOs. Of course, this is just a very small glance at what we’re likely to see from Milroe in the years to come. But it was still strange to see. The clip also featured a good bit of Milroe dropping back from under center, something that he hardly did at all while at Alabama.

Jalen Milroe Blew Away The Seattle Seahawks On His Pre-Draft Visit With The Team

Seattle and general manager John Schneider didn’t have Milroe as the No. 1 quarterback on their draft board. That honor very likely went to No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. But the organization is still plenty excited about their rookie signal caller.

“He’s a unique, special, special kid, special athlete, special kid, special young man, athlete,” Schneider said.
We’re going to develop him as a quarterback. With that, he’s going to add something special as we go.

He’s a William Campbell Award — Academic Heisman Award — winner,” Schneider said. “Has had four different offensive coordinators. Works his tail off. Mom, former Navy. Dad is a Marine. He came in on a visit, had a really great visit. He was in a spot, and he just kept coming. He was there by himself.”

Darnold is clearly QB1 in Seattle to start the season. That much is evident by his huge contract. But given the high praise, don’t be surprised if Milroe is breathing down his neck s
